Gmail Users Dial One Million VoIP Calls in 24 hours

Yes, One million calls in 24 Hours. Google has just introduced Gmail phone-calling feature. Google twitted announcing the near-immediate milestone and thanking people for trying it.Google has more than 175 million users hence the services isn’t available for all the users yet.Google’s service allows users to make telephone calls via their new Gmail interface. Calls to US and Canada will be free for rest of the year and international calling rates will be low as promised by google.

People have been talking through microphones and speakers via Gtalk Service since 2005,but gmail users cant dial into landlines. To talk both the users had to be online and logged into their computers. Google has given users one more reason to stay with Google services like Gmail and Google Voice.

Google designed a user-friendly interface for this service. Users dial the numbers as they do in their cell phones , when users click "Call phone" at the top of their chat list and dial a number or enter a contact's name, it calls the number. If the users have a Google Voice phone number, calls from Gmail will display that number as the outbound caller ID. Users can also choose to receive calls to this number right inside Gmail.

Integrating with Android

With this new service in Google, it has now started to compete with Skype. but skype has still more advantage with international calling and integration onto mobile devices.

It will be a logical step, especially if Google plans to become a force to be reckoned with in the Voice over Internet Protocol world.

Minutes are not nearly as precious as they were before, with many people being on unlimited or nearly unlimited plans। Nevertheless, it makes sense for them to integrate this functionality and tie more of that functionality into Google Voice.

So lets See what happens will google integrate this system with Android OS? If yes what will be the users inntention towards it?

Office 2010 Preview

If you have already installed Office 2010 you might have come across various new things which can help in making things better. There has been enormous difference between Office 2007 and Office 2010.

The first picture you see is the spash screen which shows the basic contents which are loading , apart from that if we don't want to start we are also provided with CANCEL button at lower-left corner of the screen.

In Excel we can use filters which helps us in finding what are we looking for. As the required item is typed we get the results in seconds. Apart from that the more interesting part is the Developer part. The best part found was Visual Basic concept which is now included in Excel itself.

You can paste with Live Preview. You have various options available like copying only text, with links, images, with source, only source . So this saves time in erasing either of the things which are included as a waste during copying.

Outlook 2010 is much advanced and helpful. We now have Outlook connector through which we can new connect multiple Exchange mailboxes in a single Outlook profile. Apart from now have social media connector

Improvements in SmartArt — let you apply effects to document text, so you can still edit and spell check it.
Outlook Quick Steps — let you build macros to speed common tasks like forwarding an e-mail and deleting the original.

No More OEM for XP SP3

Yes what you heard is correct. Microsoft is now slowly phasing off windows XP out inorder to focus more on Windows 7.After 4months no Pre-installed XP machines will be available in the market. Although Fact is that after the release of Windows 7 the use of Windows XP has dropped dramitacallly but even though you will find some machines still preinstalled with Windows XP and there are very few Machines left in netbooks which can be easily available with at low cost.

This means that windows 7 is only the alternative left with us. Microsoft announced in april that Windows XP OEM’s won’t be available from October onwords. Many manufacturers has already been selling Windows 7 since its release from October 2009. As per the survey in April 2010, most of the netbooks sold were Pre-Installed with WINdows 7.aking this into consideration Microsoft Finally called of OEM’s of Windows XP.

After this huge success of Windows 7, customers are ready to letgo WIndwos XP more easily now compared to some months ago cause the only alternative left for them was Windows Vista. Microsoft had stopped offering XP to OEMs for plain vanilla computers and through retail channels on June 30, 2008. As of January 31, 2009, System Builders were also no longer able to grab XP licenses for installation on their new computers.

Also people who are still on Windows XP Service Pack 2 by 13th July 2010 it will reach END OF SUPPORT. For alternative of Windows XP SP2 you can install the latest pack available that’s Windows XP Service Pack 3 via Microsoft Updater. Windows XP Service Pack 3 will continue till April 2014

Windows Azure CDN

Windows Azure team has now came up with Windows Azure CDN(Content Delivery Network),in which customers levering the offering will be able to continue doing it for free of charge. Enormous amount of copies are stored on Windows azure network making them easily accessible in online distribution scenarios.

Windows Azure CDN billing period will start from next month that’s after 30^th June 2010. The charges for CDN will be depending upon the usage. CDN will charge $0.15 for North America and Europeans and $0.20 for other locations.

Microsoft announced that there are approximately 19 locations add up including United States, Europe, Asia, Australia and South America. This software offers their customers with global solution and delivering high speed bandwidth content. Apart from that Redmond company revealed that it tested the offering extensively and they were using it for the distribution of its own content including various updates for Windows, Zune and Bing Maps.

Some of the content types supported by Windows Azure CDN include web objects like JPG, CSS and Java Script, apart from that downloadable object like media files, software’s, documents and some other components for internet Delivery. Windows Azure CDN also supports HTTP Delivery of public content stored in Windows Azure Storage.

Being a Microsoft Fan we all know that they are currently working on next version of Windows Home Server . They are glad to announce that their Beta is now available and its code name is “VAIL”. Microsoft releases this beta with a goal to solicit our feedback.
So whats new and exciting with the newer version of this windows? Although VAIL is still under development but sources say that VAIL has improved in following key areas.

Extending media streaming outside the home or office

Multi-PC backup and restore

Simplified setup and user experience

Expanded development and customization tools for partners

This OS will run only on 64bit version and not on 32 bit version since there are various compability issues with OEM drivers.

Since it is still in ‘beta,’ please install the Vail code on a secondary computer as opposed to existing Windows Home Server v1 OEM systems (not even 64-bit systems) If you do install the beta on an existing system, you may experience a number of problems, including the inability to run WHS v1 add-in applications (even those provided by OEMs).

Installing on a secondary machine will help ensure the best possible user experience.

Installation of the Vail OS on a PC will also require users to wipe all data from that PC or device.

The hardware requirements for Vail call for a 1.4 GHz x64 processor, 1 GB RAM, and at least one160 GB hard drive.

Microsoft SQL Server is a computer application used to create desktop, enterprise, and web-based database systems

The current version of SQL Server, SQL Server 2008 was released (RTM) on August 6, 2008 and aims to make data management self-tuning, self organizing, and self maintaining with the development of SQL Server Always On technologies, to provide near-zero downtime. SQL Server 2008 also includes support for structured and semi-structured data, including digital media formats for pictures, audio, video and other multimedia data. In current versions, such multimedia data can be stored as BLOBs (binary large objects).

SQL Server 2008 can be a data storage backend for different varieties of data: XML, email, date and time, file, document, spatial, etc as well as perform search, query, analysis, sharing across all data types.

Other new data types include specialized date and time types and a Spatial data type for location-dependent data and the new FILE STREAM data type, which can be used to reference any file stored on the file system. The Full-Text Search functionality has been integrated with the database engine, which simplifies management and improves performance.

SQL Server includes better compression features, which also helps in improving scalability. It The version of SQL Server Management Studio included with SQL Server 2008 supports IntelliSense for SQL queries against a SQL Server 2008 Database Engine.

IE9 Cocktail Preview

Microsoft in IE8 beta 2 made a commitment not to break the web. Following the same even IE9 cannot be now counted as a single browser. According to looks of it, Compatibility view will survive into the Final version (RTM) of IE9 allowing the browsers to acts as IE5,IE7,IE8 as well as IE9, displaying it on web content it plays nice with modern web standards as it is designed to be more compatible with older versions of IE.

Early users can grab the IE9 Platform Preview and start swapping rendering models. Some of the best shortcuts are Alt+5: Force IE5 rendering mode, Alt+7: Force IE7 render mode, Alt+8: Force IE8 Rendering mode and Alt+7 Force IE9 Rendering mode.F12 launches Default developer tools . These developers tools allow users to control the browser mode: IE7, IE8, IE9 but also IE9 with 7 Compatibility view and IE8 8 compatibility view. Document mode is also made available with Quirks Mode,IE7 Standards, IE8 standards and IE9 standard, which are made default. In order to revert the Default Document mode, press ALT+0.

By looks IE9 is much similar to IE8 and will be much interesting to watch the changes to be included in First public beta of IE9 browser.

Protect your computer
There are possibly 4 Major Functions which will protect your computer against these potential therts.

Firewall: Protects your computer by preventing hackers or malicious software from gaining access to it.
Virus Protection: Protects your computer against viruses, worms, and other security threats.
Spyware and other malware protection: Protects your computer from spyware and other potentially unwanted software.
Windows Update: Windows can routinely check for updates for your computer and install them automatically.

Manage Security with Action Center

Use a Firewall
A firewall is software or hardware that checks information coming from the Internet or a network and then either turns it away or allows it to pass through to your computer, depending on your firewall settings. In this way, a firewall can help prevent hackers and malicious software from gaining access to your computer.
Windows Firewall is built into Windows and is turned on automatically.
If you run a program such as an instant messaging program or a multiplayer network game that needs to receive information from the Internet or a network, the firewall asks if you want to block or unblock (allow) the connection. If you choose to unblock the connection, Windows Firewall creates an exception so that the firewall won't bother you when that program needs to receive information in the future.
Use virus protection
Viruses, worms, and Trojan horses are programs created by hackers that use the Internet to infect vulnerable computers. Viruses and worms can replicate themselves from computer to computer, while Trojan horses enter a computer by hiding inside an apparently legitimate program, such as a screen saver. Destructive viruses, worms, and Trojan horses can erase information from your hard disk or completely disable your computer. Others don't cause direct damage, but worsen your computer's performance and stability.
Antivirus programs scan e mail and other files on your computer for viruses, worms, and Trojan horses. If one is found, the antivirus program either quarantines (isolates) it or deletes it entirely before it damages your computer and files.
Windows does not have a built-in antivirus program, but your computer manufacturer might have installed one. If not, go to the Windows 7 security software provider’s website to find an antivirus program.
Because new viruses are identified every day, it's important to use an antivirus program with an automatic update capability. When the program is updated, it adds new viruses to its list of viruses to check for, helping to protect your computer from new attacks. If the list of viruses is out of date, your computer is vulnerable to new threats. Updates usually require an annual subscription fee. Keep the subscription current to receive regular updates.
Use spyware protection
Spyware is software that can display advertisements, collect information about you, or change settings on your computer, generally without appropriately obtaining your consent. For example, spyware can install unwanted toolbars, links, or favorites in your web browser, change your default home page, or display pop-up ads frequently. Some spyware displays no symptoms that you can detect, but it secretly collects sensitive information, such as the websites you visit or the text you type. Most spyware is installed through free software that you download, but in some cases simply visiting a website results in a spyware infection.
To help protect your computer from spyware, use an antispyware program. This version of Windows has a built-in antispyware program called Windows Defender, which is turned on by default. Windows Defender alerts you when spyware tries to install itself on your computer. It also can scan your computer for existing spyware and then remove it.
Because new spyware appears every day, Windows Defender must be regularly updated to detect and guard against the latest spyware threats. Windows Defender is updated as needed whenever you update Windows. For the highest level of protection, set Windows to install updates automatically
Update Windows automatically
Microsoft regularly offers important updates to Windows that can help protect your computer against new viruses and other security threats. To ensure that you receive these updates as quickly as possible, turn on automatic updating. That way, you don't have to worry that critical fixes for Windows might be missing from your computer.
Updates are downloaded behind the scenes when you're connected to the Internet. The updates are installed at 3:00 A.M. unless you specify a different time. If you turn off your computer before then, you can install updates before shutting down. Otherwise, Windows will install them the next time you start your computer.
To turn on automatic updating

Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.
Click Change settings.
Make sure Install updates automatically (recommended) is selected.
Windows will install important updates for your computer as they become available. Important updates provide significant benefits, such as improved security and reliability.
Under Recommended updates, make sure the Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates check box is selected, and then click OK.
Recommended updates can address non-critical problems and help enhance your computing experience. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Tips for safely using e mail and the web

Use caution when opening e mail attachments. E mail attachments (files attached to e mail messages) are a primary source of virus infection. Never open an attachment from someone you don't know. If you know the sender but weren't expecting an attachment, verify that the sender actually sent the attachment before you open it.
Guard your personal information carefully. If a website asks for a credit card number, bank information, or other personal information, make sure you trust the website and verify that its transaction system is secure.
Be careful when clicking hyperlinks in e mail messages. Hyperlinks (links that open websites when you click them) are often used as part of phishing and spyware scams, but they can also transmit viruses. Only click links in e mail messages that you trust.
Only install add-ons from websites that you trust. Web browser add-ons allow webpages to display things like toolbars, stock tickers, video, and animation.
However, add-ons can also install spyware or other malicious software. If a website asks you to install an add-on, make sure that you trust it before doing so.

IE9 Platform preview available for download

On the second day of MIX10, Microsoft has made available to download platform preview the first release of Internet Explorer 9.It is currently up for grabs for Microsoft.

This preview is designed especially for developers and not for end users. As a developer , you will be happy to know that IE9 includes developer tools by default and no back button for end users. General Manager Dean Hachamovitch was on MIX10 specially to provide a key note on Internet Explorer 9.

Currently first bits of IE9 are available for download and are named as Platform Preview. IE9 will be very first browser to take standard web patterns that developers use and run them on modern PCs. IE9 also brings expanded support with HTML-5 and hardware accelerated graphics and text with newly enabled JavaScript engine designed specially to boost the performance of the browser. With addition of NVDIA GPUs IE9 removes glass ceiling for web developers, enabling them to build basically high performance web applications.

The new JavaScript engine enabled for IE9 was codenamed Chakra, and that it delivers level of performance almost on par with it rivals.

Use the Shift Key to Temporarily Disable Startup Applications for Troubleshooting

After the installation of certain software’s which are used rarely, but they start up every time up login into your Machine. These startups can cause logon delays or prevent you from completing Windows startup in normal mode. One of the best and easiest way is that you can just configure to disable startup applications.

Hold down SHIFT key during the logon process, you can jst prevent the operating system from running the startup programs or the shortcuts following Folder :

* StartMenu\Programs\Startup

To Disable the applications in the above folder you can hold down the SHIFT key until the desktop icon appears. Holding shift key is much better alternative rather than temporarily deleting or moving programs and shortcuts as this procedure only affcets the current user session.

To use the Shift key to disable applications and shortcuts in startup folders, log off the computer and then log on again. Immediately press and hold down the Shift key. Continue to hold down the Shift key until the desktop icons appear. If you can log on successfully, you have isolated the cause of the problem to your startup applications. Next, you should use the System Configuration utility to temporarily disable applications one by one until you identify the cause of the problem. With the cause of the problem identified, you can fix the application or permanently remove it from your startup programs.

What is the Public Folder & How to Use it

If you are a Windows Vista user you might have come around the word Public Folder . It is not a big feature but rather than that it’s just a slightly special setup which can be used in certain scenarios. Hence this feature is also kept in Windows 7.

What is the public Folder in Windows 7?

If you want to find the Public folder it is found in ‘C:\USERS\PUBLIC’ and in this folder you will find all the registered users who have access to your computer. All that is saved in that folder have access too all the users who have account in that Computer. Also depending on your settings you can make the folder to be accessed by the computers on the same network.

Folder Contents

As a Public folder this folder contains its sub folders. Just like shared documents, shared music, shared pictures and such things we have Public Documents , Public Downloads, Public Music, public Videos etc… These folders contains sample files for each folders just like we have shared pictures like Blue Hills, Sunset , Water lilies in XP.

The Public folder also contains a series of hidden folders such as: Favorites, Libraries and Public Desktop. By default, these folders are empty.

Making use of this Public Folder

Using this Public folder is your choice. I mostly don’t use this folder but that doesn’t mean that this is not handy. For e.g. If there are 3 users in my Pc, and all of them want to use a same file to have some or other things to do on it. So I will make that Folder public and ask the other followers to just perform the work which I have described in that folder in my absence. Hence Public Folder can me more useful in that case. The Public folder can also be used for sharing files with other computers on your network. If you choose to share this folder, other computers can access its contents.

Share/Unshare the public Folder

By default, this folder is not activated . In order to enable/disable this folder from sharing you need to open the Advance Sharing Settings panel.

Finally arriving to the conclusion this feature is not that important if you don’t have multiple accounts in your machine and there are various other ways to share the folder in your netowrk.If you are on network and want to share the limited things you can use this folder and also ask for people from the network to same file in Public Folder from their machine in your absence. I would say I don’t prefer this folder due to various types of people in your network if a person contains a high variation viruses there is possibility that they may harm your computer. So its better to be safe and secure rather than going for a suicide

Google Chrome 5.0.335.0 Available for Download

As said by dev channel update in this month not only Opera 10.50 is goin to release. Google released a DEV channel update for its open source browser. Looking at the circumstances Google has now Updated Chrome 5.0.335 from its beta version to Final release.This Chrome can be grab not only for windows but also for other Operating systems like Linux and Mac too. By the end of this week also Firefox 3.7 Alpha 2 is marching up for its release.
This build has certain functions like
• Fix Issues relating to new content settings unctionality
• Removing and Remove all Button for cookie manager
• Fix Crash when installing an extension
• Fix star button theming.

Although various builds for Chrome 5.0 has been released but still this is a pre-release software and comes with various issues, so thouse who feel uncofertable with pre-release software should not take any risk’s and stick with chrome 4.0 which is still much more stable then chrome 5.0 build.

1. Backups

Starting from a backup which is the most useful and most required application in todays world. I dont know how my data is deleted. i have mistakely deleted some data. Now what?? Google yourself. Find softwares and freewares inorder to retrive your data. Is same thing happening with you? Let me show you a simple and easy step to take a Backup in Windows 7.

Click on START button

Type Backup and Restore in search button and open it.

Select the location where you need your Pc to be backed up.

2. Time for Safety.

I admit that I'm a worst PC user who uses different pen drives , potables etc.. and i daily face problems with my registry’s, data etc.. So for this purpose Windows 7 consist of Action Center. Action center is a new feature included in windows 7 which makes it easy to indicate(ensure) everything is executing smoothly. From backups to troubleshooting is managed by Action center.

Action Center is designed to manage security.

Action Center is a new feature designed for user to get notifications about your pc in one central location and make it easy to ensure everything is executing smoothly.Windows Defender to Windows Firewall, antivirus settings to Backup and Restore, this is the one place to take care of all your security needs.

Click on START button

Search for Action Center in Search box and open it.

View Security settings.

If any of the security checks is black listed you will recieve an notificaiton to take care of those things.An flag will be hosted up and you need to check the flag for the notifications.Just Click the flag and view the notifications.

3. Parental Controls

Parental Controls are the parents best friend. You can decide which programs your children’s can have a look, which games they can play, and even set times when they can use the Pc, and most importantly keeps your kids safe on Internet, for that you will have to use web-based programs like Windows Live Family Safety. Click on START button.

Search for Parental Controls in search box and open it.

If you haven't still setup accounts for your children’s,click on Create a new user Account, type user name and create Account.

Click on that Account and simply turn on Parental Controls and customize your settings for your children’s.

4. Improve your PC performance

Let’s take your system is running too slow. It takes time to open up all the applications. Everything you do is too slow to cover up. So it’s worth to take few minutes to make sure that your PC performance is at its peak.

4.1Check out Power settings.

Let’s say I use laptop and by mistake I have forgotten my charger at home or else I’m at a place where I can’t charge my laptop . SO what should I need to be done? You can make use of Power settings. With power settings you can change the appearance of you desktop and this helps you to save much of your power and helps your laptop to work more time than anticipated.

Click on START button.

Search for Power settings in search box or else simply click on your battery in taskbar.

4.2. Speed up your computer with Ready Boost

Whenever I’m running large bunch of applications which grasp more power, I use ReadyBoost. What it does is it uses extra spaces from cards, pen drives or portables to speed up everything

Wherever you plug in the device you will see an auto play dialogue box. Click on Speed up my system

4.3. Troubleshooter

In windows XP troubleshooting was the big issue. whereas in Windows 7 if you are facing any problem, these tool will take a look at your system and notify if there is any wrong things going on. They usually tell us how to fix problems. Windows 7has many troubleshooters but the most useful one is used for performance issue.

Click on START button.

Search for Troubleshooting and open it.

Under System and Security, click Check for performance issues.

5. Customize your PC

If you like making changes to your pc regularly like changing themes to changing fonts for your pc, Windows 7includes ways to reflect your personal preferences.

Do u use gadgets?? if yes than there are many programs included in windows7 and also you can download them from Internet.

Right click on desktop and select Gadgets.

Choose the one required or select Get more gadgets online.

Browse the gadgets and download them

Use those on your desktops.

6. Learn how to save time

Keyboard shortcuts or combination of two or more keys are the most effective time savers because they speed up performing the common tasks. Ctrl + shift + click on taskbar button opens that program as an administrator. Shift+Right-click on a grouped taskbar button opens the window menu for the group

Another way to save time is by using Accelerators in Internet Explorer 8. Just highlight (or right-click) some text and a list of options will appear. For instance, instead of copying and pasting text into a search engine, you can right-click it, select “Search with Bing,” and view results instantly in a new tab.

7. Learn something new

There are a lot of new features in Windows 7to uncover. Here is one I particularly like.

Play To.We have way too many CDs. I’m in the very slow process of digitizing all our music and putting it on my PC. I love my laptop—but its speakers leave something to be desired. Enter Play To, possibly the single coolest feature of Windows 7, according to me.

With Play To, I can stream the albums on my laptop PC to his desktop PC, which has much better speakers. If we had a Windows 7-compatible home entertainment system, we could use that, too. To use Play To

Open Windows Media Player and click the Play tab on the upper right.

Find the music you want in the Player Library and then drag that song into the playlist pane on the right.

Click the Play To button at the top of the list pane.

Click on the device on your network that will receive the media.

In the Play To dialog box, use the playback controls to play, pause, or stop the media stream, and to select the next or previous item in the list.

There are various antiviruses availabe in the market but as per my views is use Microsoft Security Essentials.

The best Tip i can give is since there is no security guaranteed,it's important to back up critical files on regular basis before you meet with viruses and such other problems.

Use Internet Firewalls :- These Firewalls acts as filters and are available in Windows 7,Windows Vista, WIndows XP SP2 and are turned on as default.

Visit Microsoft Updates:- Don't forget to install the updates available by Microsoft every month.If your Operating System is up-to-date you will be provided the updates of Microsoft Office and other Microsoft updates and patches related to it.

Looks like Microsoft’s Windows 7 the name brings some luck for Mircosoft and after their 10% profit on Windows 7 operating system relesed this year,Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was on a stage for minute before he invited Joe Belfiore the vice president for Windows Phone. Without wasting any time Belfiore was band on target demonstrating the next generation of Windows Mobile operating system and associated devices Named Windwos Phone 7. The mantra given was Your Phone is not a PC.

Microsoft promised that Windows Phone 7 is positioned as hubs for the owners, entire life ,work, play, social networking, media, all these in a single device.

Andy Lees the Senior Vice President of Microsoft’s Mobile Communication Stated that “There is a unique relationship between people and their phones. It’s the only piece technology they have with them all the time keeping them connected to information, family, and friends. The journey we’re starting now is about helping people connect with their mobile lives in a fresh, new way.”
Belfiore ended up the presentation with a video which took a swing at Apple.

Microsoft Called on Apple for building more better phone which is already available on the market. This presentation also stated the next stage for the evolution of smartphones, but as a new beginning altogether for the mobile devices.

Hackers Crack Office 2010 RC Build

Microsoft’s Office 2010 RC has been leaked out for Bit Torrent users. For this case Microsoft plans to work hard on next build of Office release and build anti-piracy protection in the next iteration of the productivity suite before RTM in order to prevent the illegal methods already designed and implemented.

Hackers have already managed to bypass the activation mechanism of Office 2010 RC build 14.0.4734.1000 and is distributed worldwide and this cracked version do not need end users to enter the product key.The VLK(Volume Licensing) edition of Office 2010 is now made available to various torrents and warez sites.

According to the sources applying the crack , the illegal bypass method words by swapping the tokens.dat and pkeyconfig-office.xrm-ms files from Retail edition of Office 2010 RC which wasn’t activated with those from a beta release of the product which can be easily activated using any product keys provided by the Redmond Company.
